The firm's Retrievable Transfer feature works by building a new layer onto existing blockchain protocols. Users then have the ability to "cancel" a transaction sent to an incorrect cryptocurrency wallet address, the Israeli company said in a press release Tuesday.

"Our aim is to make blockchain transactions as simple and as secure as online banking," said Kirobo CEO Asaf Naim.

Kirobo, a two-year-old Israeli blockchain startup, announced on Tuesday that it has found a way to tackle problems related to human error in cryptocurrency transactions.

In a recent survey by the Fio Foundation, 55% of respondents reported experiencing stressful human errors when sending cryptocurrency, and 18% reported loss of funds due to such errors.

Israeli blockchain startup Kirobo made a splash earlier this year when it introduced a groundbreaking service allowing Bitcoin transactions to be reversed. Since then it has run a successful beta, had a soft launch of its token KIRO and now it’s introducing staking for its token.

The startup is known for its ability to offer reversible Bitcoin transactions—that are self-custodial. Users are now being incentivized to use its nascent token to access this service at a cheaper rate, but can also stake it to support the network.

With support from the Israel Innovation Authority, Kirobo’s solution was to build an additional logic layer into blockchain protocols called Retrievable Transfer, suitable for individuals, custodians, exchanges, and wallet providers wanting to add security features. This layer acts as a third verification step, helping users to avoid losses from transaction errors by requiring the sender to add a passcode to their transfer. The recipient must then enter a matching passcode before the funds get released. Until the recipient enters the correct code, the sender can cancel and retrieve the transaction. Kirobo does not hold the private keys and has no access to the funds or destination at any point during the process.

As part of Kirobo’s mission to help the estimated 18% of cryptocurrency users who have lost funds through sending errors, its “logic layer” solution acts as an additional verification step. It requires senders to add passcodes to their transfers that must be matched by the intended recipient before funds are released. The solution protects balances until the correct recipient enters a matching code, before which the transaction can still be canceled and retrieved. The whole process is non-custodial, and Kirobo never has any access to the funds.
